Ximena Del Carpio

Ximena Del Carpio is Program Leader for Social Inclusion—Social Protection, Labor, Education, Health, Gender, Poverty, Refugees—at the World Bank’s Turkey office in Ankara. Dr. Del Carpio is an expert in social policy, especially in human development and poverty issues. She is currently overseeing the Bank’s work on refugee issues and related response in Turkey. While at the World Bank, she has provided expertise throughout the world and provided policy advice to governments in Latin America, East Asia and the Pacific, and Europe and Central Asia region. Prior to her current position, she worked as a senior economist in the Social Protection and Labor Global Practice, the Independent Evaluation Group and the Human Development teams of the World Bank. In her previous posts Dr. Del Carpio led various operational and technical assistance tasks in social assistance, labor, migration and skills, as well as analytical tasks focusing on labor and education policy, rural development, and social safety nets. Before coming to the World Bank she was interim director of a U.S. Department of Commerce program providing assistance to U.S. minority owned businesses.

Her publication record is extensive; she has written and published numerous academic papers, policy papers, and reports on a range of economic development topics, including safety nets, labor and wage policy, migration, education and skills, gender equality, child labor, and rural development. Dr. Del Carpio has been awarded numerous recognitions for her analytical and operational work; in 2013 she was awarded a prize for Best Analytical Work in Human Development and another similar prize from the Finance Academy of the World Bank. Dr. Del Carpio holds a Ph.D. in Political Economy and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Southern California, a dual Master degree in Public Policy and Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
