Catalog Description
Mainstream counseling theories and approaches. Basic concepts, principles, and strategies in counseling theories and approaches. Conceptualizing and evaluating the problems of the counselee within the framework of mainstream counseling theories.
Course Objectives
This course aims to provide students with a framework for mainstream counseling theories and approaches.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
differentiate counseling from traditional interpretations of guidance, psychotherapy, and consultation,
demonstrate understanding of cognitive, affective and behavioral theories,
critique a variety of counseling theories and intervention strategies based on those theories,
analyze the therapeutic process and the practical elements of counseling theories,
demonstrate an awareness of personal strengths and limitations in utilizing counseling theories and intervention strategies.
