This course is designed to give you a broad overview of the many different perspectives from which psychologists try to understand human behavior. This course aims to help you understand the basic psychological principles that refer to human cognition, emotion, and behavior. We are going to cover topics that refer, among others, to how people perceive the world around them, the way they learn and memorize new facts, the effect of social context on their functioning, their classification according to their personality characteristics, and issues pertinent to stress and health. The overarching aim of the course is to provide you some important information about human psychological functioning.
Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to
-Explain the primary objectives of psychology
-Demonstrate knowledge and understanding representing appropriate breadth and depth in selected content areas of psychology
-Discuss basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation
-Integrate theoretical perspectives to produce comprehensive and multi-faceted explanations
-Demonstrate an attitude of critical thinking that includes persistence, open-mindedness, tolerance for ambiguity and intellectual engagement
