Catalog Description
Work and gender relation. Theoretical approaches to gender and development. Markets, globalization and gender. Gender dimensions of economic development. Economics discipline from a feminist perspective. The gendered effects of the development strategies implemented in different regions of the world. Policies towards gender equality. A gender-aware interpretation of the economic development policy concerns, and debates from a feminist economics perspective.
Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to examine the gendered effects of the development strategies implemented in different regions of the world. Upon completion of the course students can expect to attain: a gender-aware interpretation of the economic development policy concerns and debates from a feminist economics perspective; a critical thinking and perspective of how gender matters in development economics; and the ability to interpret gender-differentiated indicators and descriptive statistics in policy context.

Software Usage
Students will use MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint) to work on their weekly assignments about 2 hours a week.
Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students should be able to:
Discuss some simple economic models related to economic development and economic growth.
Demonstrate their understanding of location of women in the processes of economic development.
Describe what economic development is, and the centrality of gender at every level.
Explain graphically and algebraically the gender specific consequences of government intervention and policies.
Use economic analysis to evaluate current social and political issues and policies.
