A hands-on learning in a real-world setting to gain experience and knowledge in schools. Allow students to participate in counselor educational programs under the supervision of a professional counselor.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to;

1. practice a variety of professional activities an resources in educational settings,
2. perform duties expected in a school counseling setting, including working collaboratively with school faculty and staff, providing individual, small group and classroom guidance and counseling, and responding appropriately to ethical and legal situations,
3. identifying own strengths and needs as a counselor, infusing multicultural, counseling skills and implement strategies to improve counseling effectiveness,
4. implement self-care strategies appropriate to the counselor role (CACREP II.G.1.d),
5. demonstrate an understanding of crisis intervention and suicide prevention models (CACREP II.G.5.g),
6. demonstrate an ability to apply and adhere to ethical and legal standards in school counseling (CACREP SC.B.1),
7. demonstrate an ability to articulate, model, and advocate for an appropriate school counselor identity and program (CACREP SC.B.2),
8. demonstrate self-awareness, sensitive to others, and the skills needed to relate to diverse individuals, groups, and classrooms (CACREP SC.D.1),
9. provide individual and group counseling and classroom guidance to promote the academic, career, and personal/social development of students (CACREP SC.D.2),
10. Design and implemented prevention and intervention plans related to the effects of (a) atypical growth and development, (b) health and wellness, (c) language, (d) ability level, (e) multicultural issues, and (f) factors of resiliency on student and learning development (CACREP SC.D.3).
