TEDU Observatory signs Magna Charta Universitatum

TED University signed the Observatory Magna Charta Universitatum, which is accepted by 947 universities from 94 countries around the world and includes the principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy. The international convention, known as the “Constitution of Universities”, contains many articles on the need to guarantee the autonomy of universities.

TED University Rector Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu stated that the rectors who signed the Declaration, on behalf of their universities, undertook the duty to encourage all national and international organizations within their authority to be inspired by the convention, which includes the principles unanimously determined by universities.

The principle of independent education in universities will be supported

Stating that the Observatory Magna Charta Universitatum includes three basic principles, Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu said, “The first of these is the article that in order for universities to be ready for the dynamics of the world, all their work must be intellectually independent from external factors. The principle that universities' education and research form an inseparable whole is also an important point in the convention. It draws attention to the need to enable students to enrich themselves with this knowledge.”

Signatory organizations are considered representatives of the humanist tradition

According to the Observatory Magna Charta Universitatum, universities are a part of the European humanist traditions.
