Özlem Erden Başaran
Dr. Erden-Basaran completed her Ph.D. in Curriculum Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, the USA, with the Fulbright Foreign Student Program's sponsorship. She completed her postdoctoral research at St Mary's University, Twickenham-London's Centre for Research into the Education of Marginalized Children and Young Adults in the Faculty of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
Dr. Erden-Basaran holds an MSc degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, and a BSc degree in Science Teaching at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. During her graduate work, she also received a Postgraduate Exchange Certificate in Education Studies at Middlesex University, London. She attended training on sexuality, culture, and society at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a summer school on forced migration at the University of Oxford, the UK.
Dr. Erden-Basaran's research concentrates on refugee and immigrant education, multicultural education, curriculum theories and development, sexuality politics, and inquiry methodology. Her scholarship examines youth identity development, refugee and immigrant children's schooling experiences, livelihood approaches, citizenship and civic tendencies, alternative educational programs, and inclusive education.
Work History (Selected Narrative)
Dr. Erden-Basaran is currently working as an associate professor at TED University, Ankara. She also worked as an adjunct lecturer at Middle East Technical University and taught BA-level courses such as Educational Philosophy, Educational Sociology, and Introduction to Education. She also co-taught an MA-level Comparative International Migration Policies class at Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University.
She worked as an academic specialist and inquiry project coordinator for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching, the Afghan Junior Faculty Development Programme, and the Fulbright Russian International Education Administrators at the Centre for International Education, Development, and Research at Indiana University Bloomington as a scholar with extensive international work experience. She also served as a senior executive assistant at the Turkish Fulbright Commission. In addition to these experiences, she worked as a project coordinator and field coordinator for several projects on immigrant and refugee communities from Middle Eastern and North African countries in the UK, the Netherlands, and Turkey.
During her time at TED University, she worked as a principle investigator and researcher on the following projects:
