Catalog Description
Nature of research (ways of investigating, importance and value of research). Foundations of research (research questions, variables, hypothesis, ethics, literature, population, sample, and instruments, validity and reliability, data collection and analysis, and discussion). Research types and methods. Writing research proposals and reports.
Course Objectives

Edu 202 is an introductory course on research methods to enable students to (1) understand the importance of educational research, (2) identify the characteristics of quantitative and qualitative research designs (3) design an educational research. This course intends to enable students to approach problems or issues related to their field as a researcher.

Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to

* describe the basic components involved in educational research;

* differentiate various types of research methodologies;

* outline the steps of an educational research process;

* demonstrate skills in formulating research questions, selecting samples, conducting a review of literature, collecting data, analyzing and interpreting findings;

* discuss the use of action research in education, and

* prepare a brief research proposal.
