Catalog Description
Examining the role of public sector in the economy. The concept of public economics. Reasons for government intervention in the economy. Response of private agents to government actions. Design of tax systems.
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce students the study of public finance. The course will provide students the empirical and theoretical tools of public finance.
Software Usage
Students will use MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint) to work on their weekly assignments about 4 hours a week.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. Explain the theoretical tools of public finance.
2. Define principal concepts, relationships and aspects of public finance and their links to the public sector economics.
3. Analyze budget deficit and its components with Turkish data.
4. Compare and contrast the tax system in Turkey with the examples from the world.
5. List the reasons for government intervention in the economy.
