Note taking, inferencing, scanning for specific and detailed information, deducing meaning from the context, sub-listening skills such as understanding core of the content; phonetics; and it focuses on authentic listening materials taken from different settings including different English accents such as interviews, movies, songs, conferences, TV programs and news.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this class students will be able to;

1)  demonstrate expanded listening comprehension and critical analysis of the listening text,

2)  demonstrate improved listening strategies,

3)  demonstrate comprehension of the main idea, major points and important details related to the listening text,

4)  demonstrate increased skills in note-taking, 

5)  critically analyze the listening content for elements,

6)  recognize the communicative purpose or the attitude and style of the speaker, make inferences based on the listening text,

7)  make connections among pieces of information listened, and

8)  recognize topic changes or introductions and conclusions in the listening text
