Conversations with Turkey's Career Pioneers 6
Yeşim HATIRLI, one of the founding partners of Hatırlı Architecture and previously a guest of Radyo TEDU, was the sixth guest of our Turkey's Career Pioneers Talk. Ms. Hatırlı started her conversation by introducing herself to the students stating that she has been a studio instructor at METU for 11 years, and also the chairman of the executive board of the Association of Turkish Independent Architects (TSMD).
Continuing her talk by answering student questions, Hatırlı talked about the points in which architecture and art intersect, mentioning that an architect works like an orchestra chef. She added that being an architect is very different and valuable because of its vision, its outlook on life, and its ability to coordinate different disciplines. She also said that there are plenty of job opportunities, and that being ambitious will allow students to improve themselves in the work they do. She talked about how challenging an education in architecture can be.
She added that Hatırlı Architecture achieved its current status through hard work and determination, and that when one does a good job, it brings other opportunities with it. She stated that architecture feeds on art and culture, and pleasing the customer is as important as the pleasantness of the structure. Ms. Hatırlı stated that her dream structure is designing a modern arts museum and ended her talk by suggesting students to follow www.arkitera.com and www.tsmd.org.tr.
