AFETTEK Platform

DISASTER AND EMERGENCY TECHNOLOGIES PLATFORM 
The Disaster and Emergency Technologies Platform, known as AFETTEK, is an initiative established by a coalition of universities, non-governmental organizations, private sector entities, and associations representing these institutions. AFETTEK aims to increase the economic and social benefits that the private sector can provide and ensure the efficient use of technological investments made in coordination with public authorities. The platform envisions collaborative efforts in areas such as information and communication technologies, disaster-resistant structures, life sciences, climate and environmental technologies, and industrial technologies. By fostering public-private partnerships, AFETTEK also seeks to raise public awareness and preparedness in the face of disasters.
 

DYNAMICS BEHIND THE INITIATIVE
•    Need for new products, services, technologies, knowledge and information
•    Need for NGOs focused on disaster preparedness, technology, risk reduction, and resilience 
•    Need for an interface structure facilitating national and international collaborations among all stakeholders. 
•    Need for a strong representation for supporting capacity development and access to financial resources.
 

History

On March 25, 2023, a Search Conference was held at TEDU. During the conference, universities, non-governmental organizations, and private sector representatives gathered and decided to establish a platform/cluster aimed at planning efforts to be undertaken before, during, and after disasters. Following this decision, on June 22, 2023, the Disaster and Emergency Technologies Platform (AFETTEK) was established with the joint signature of AKUT Search and Rescue Association, Ankara Chamber of Industry’s 1st Organized Industrial Zone, Başkent University, Başkent University BIOTECH Research Center, Bilim Ağacı Foundation, Izmir University of Economics, Koç University, OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone, OSTİM Medical Industry Cluster, Sabancı University, TEDU, and the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey. The platform aims to enhance the economic and social benefits provided by the private sector and ensure the most efficient use of technological investments carried out in coordination with public authorities.
